Generally, the object is to get in a go...Hey Bret,<br /><br />Generally, the object is to get in a good shot to the body.<br /><br />However, in competitive chi sao, judges look for good trapping skills leading up to that shot. It's also understood that good uprooting or projecting techniques will look good to the judges.<br /><br />I guess the best answer is in the early stages of training, getting in a good hit while tying up the other guy is the goal of chi sao. But at more advanced levels, almost anything goes, including kicking, standing armbars, foot sweeps, chi girk (sticky legs) uprooting and projecting the other guy.<br /><br />About the only thing you couldn't use in competition would be choke holds, heavy grappling and groundfighting.Sean C.
